Drawing on the talents and expertise of various professionals, The Art Room wants to positively contribute to the development of emerging artists by offering this series of workshops.  Our next session is:

WRITING EFFECTIVE PROPOSALS – Saturday 3rd November
Writing proposals is, for many artists, the least exciting part of the exhibition process – but it is also one of the most important.  This workshop shows the ‘Do’s’ and ‘Don’ts of proposal writing, and how to use succinct language to get your ideas across.  Practical tips about supplying images, statements and documents will be covered, as well as talking about what galleries are looking for during the application process

This workshop is being hosted by Charlotte Watson, an artist and art administrator based in Melbourne.  She has exhibited regularly in Australia and New Zealand, and provides administrative support for artists on the side.  She is also the curator and gallery manager at Tinning Street Presents in Brunswick.

Places are limited to 20

COLLABORATING SUCCESSFULLY – Saturday 1st December
Collaborating is not an easy task for some artists who find it difficult to separate themselves from their own work.  Working with others is almost always harder than working alone.

After ten years of trying to collaborate together Louise Blyton and Cat Poljski have finally worked out how to do it successfully!  They’ve learned that the exchange of ideas and the experimental process are key components in collaboration.  And that no matter what the circumstances, collaborations can unlock untold creative riches.  As one engages with the other’s imagination, the process unfolds.

In this workshop Louise and Cat will be sharing what they have learned from their previous unsuccessful collaboration attempts and how they worked together to exhibit their collaborative pieces this year.

OTHER IMPORTANT TOPICS WE’LL BE COVERING IN UPCOMING WORKSHOPS:
– Crowdfunding
– Taxation for artists
– Artist websites

We’d also love to hear from YOU!  What do you want to learn more about?  Please send us your ideas and we’ll find the perfect artists with expertise in these areas to host the workshops.
