Conduit Gallery is an integral part of The Art Room, Footscray, designed as a dynamic exhibition space for emerging artists and students. Here, you can experience the full spectrum of the exhibition process, from installation to display, with hands-on educational resources that empower you to develop your autonomy as an artist.

Ideal for group shows, joint exhibitions, solo projects, and local community initiatives, Conduit Gallery offers a platform for showcasing diverse bodies of work. We are dedicated to supporting local talent as well as artists from beyond the area, creating a vibrant space for creativity and collaboration.

Our hallway exhibiting space consists of two opposite walls that face one other.

Please note, the walls are situated in a thoroughfare that has foot traffic. This gallery best suits 2D works or smaller 3D works that can sit on a shelf or plinth against the wall. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate works that involve the floor or sound/video works.

Exhibitions run for five weeks, with the install the week prior to opening.

Opening events will coincide with Parallel Projects on the first Saturday of the show, 1 – 3pm.

Conduit is open: 10am – 3pm Monday – Wednesday, Friday – Saturday

TAR has 2x square and 2x rectangular plinths available for displays. Standard installation tools and supplies are available including drills, screws, nails, a level and measuring tapes. Any specialist equipment is the responsibility of the artist.

Track lighting is available in the space, however lighting will be done by a TAR staff member, with input from the exhibitor.

Artists are responsible for installing their exhibitions. Curation support is provided, and limited installation assistance is available from TAR staff. Basic tools and materials (drills, screws, ladders, wall filler, paint) are supplied; artists must bring any additional or specialised equipment as needed.

If you would like a professional installer to hang your work, this can be arranged at an additional cost of $50 per hour.

At the end of the exhibition, artists are required to return the walls to their original condition (patch, sand, and paint).

This fee includes:
– Hire of Conduit Gallery for 5 weeks
– Curation assistance
– Limited installation support
– Access to gallery resources
– Opening reception
– Staffing of the gallery, including administration and marketing
– E-invite design
– Exhibition signage

Additional details:
– Payment plans are available
– A bond is required prior to your exhibition; this will be refunded once the gallery is restored to its original condition
– No commission is taken on artwork sales
