Join Kate Butler for this 8 week ceramics class designed for both beginners and those with some experience. While the class will focus on wheel-throwing techniques, Kate will also demonstrate methods of hand-building such as slab-building, coiling and carving, to aid students in developing work that reflects a personal vision.

Under Kate’s guidance, you will gain a solid grasp of the foundational techniques of wheel throwing, creating basic forms such as cups, mugs, and bowls, as well as more advanced forms like cylinders and vases. You will also learn how to alter these forms by hand, or to create solely by hand if you choose. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to explore various clay varieties, glazing, and learn essential principles of working with clay safely.

Whether you’re a beginner eager to embark on your creative journey or an experienced artist seeking further growth, this wheel-throwing and hand-building class with Kate will empower you to work with clay in a way that reflects your unique vision.

Kate Butler is an artist working in drawing and ceramic sculpture. Originally from North Carolina, USA, Kate holds a Master of Fine Arts and MS in Art History from the Pratt Institute in New York and also studied at the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing in Aix-en-Provence, France.
