This 4 session workshop is for those who want to think about the history of drawing the figure and what that practice might become in a contemporary context.
The workshop will disrupt the traditional practices of the life room in order to interrogate its structure and think about the human presence in the work of art. Participants will practice both rapid movement and long observation, and work with experienced models with whom have been involved in the development of these workshops.
Suitable for those with some experience of life drawing who are ready to push their own boundaries!

Sarah Tomasetti is currently undertaking a doctoral research into cultural understandings of the non human world in relation to climate change, with particular reference to the landscape image. Her methodology in the studio is driven by pre industrial techniques and materials, such as fresco, encaustic and tempera. Her practice of painting and drawing is extended with processes derived from geological study such as heat, cold, compression and flow and an ongoing investigation of how substances act upon one other.
Recent works engage with the complexity of our shifting relationship to the natural world, dealing particularly with glacial and mountainous landscapes that are in a state of rapid change.
Tomasetti spent a year studying fresco painting and restoration at the Laboratorio per Affresco di Vainella near Prato in Tuscany in 1995, before undertaking a Masters by Research at RMIT University.
In 2014 she established Peradam Projects with artist Heather Hesterman, a collaborative platform staging ephemeral installations and interactive art events designed to engage community participation and discussion. Hesterman and Tomasetti instigated the Slow Melt Project as part of the ClimARTe Festival in 2015 and ran an extensive Artists in Schools Project entitled Deep Time. Their work is featured in the publication Art+Climate=Change by Guy Abrahams, Bronwyn Johnson and Kelly Gellatly and their work appeared in ClimARTe 2017.
Sarah Tomasetti’s work is held in a number of collections including Artbank, Macquarie Bank, National Australia Bank, BHP, Grafton Regional Gallery, in private collections in Australia and overseas, and is included in Contemporary Australian Drawing by Janet McKenzie. She is represented by Australian Galleries in Melbourne and Beaver Galleries in Canberra.
