INTRODUCTION TO ABSTRACTION is a new 4 week online workshop with Merryn Trevethan that not only introduces you to abstraction but also provide strategies for looking at the spaces around us a little differently!
You’ll develop your perceptual skills to create work based on your immediate environment by drawing on the resources around you. We’ll challenge ourselves to observe and record everyday objects and spaces with a new perspective, utilising any materials we already have at home.
There will be a focus on expanding your visual vocabulary by recording, reordering, rebuilding and recreating everyday spaces. Merryn will also introduce you to a wide range of artists who use the everyday as inspiration and walk you through how she draws on her surroundings as the building block of her practice.
This class will help you see your living environment as a rich resource for generating ideas, push your practice in new directions while in lockdown (or not), and demonstrate strategies to help you to work more abstractly through observational drawing. The online classes will be supported by discussion in a private forum during the week.
