EXPANDED CYANOTYPE: EXPERIMENTAL PROCESSES & EXPANDED TECHNIQUES
This one day workshop is designed for participants who have completed a beginner cyanotype class and are ready to extend their practice. Building on foundational knowledge of traditional and wet cyanotype printing, the workshop focuses on experimentation, refinement, and process-led exploration.
Participants will investigate bleaching and toning techniques to manipulate colour, contrast, and depth, alongside methods for printing over existing cyanotypes to create layered, complex images. The workshop also expands cyanotype beyond paper, introducing printing on a range of fabrics and textiles.
An introduction to turmeric printing will further broaden image-making possibilities. This accessible, plant-based process can be used independently or in combination with cyanotype to produce warm tonal shifts, subtle staining, and hybrid outcomes. The technique encourages new ways of thinking about colour, materiality, and the role of chance in photographic processes.
This is a hands-on, experimental day that prioritises curiosity, play, and creative risk-taking. Ideal for artists and photographers looking to deepen their understanding of cyanotype and develop a more personalised, exploratory approach to the medium.
Prerequisite: Completion of a beginner cyanotype class (or equivalent experience).
