DRAWING PRACTICE is a structured yet flexible program supporting students in developing fluency and confidence in the language of drawing, while allowing space for individual curiosity, experimentation, and exploration.

Each term offers a particular focus, providing opportunities to dive more deeply into a key concept or approach. Through teacher-led exercises, you will revisit and extend core drawing fundamentals, moving into more independent inquiry later in the term. Alongside strengthening perceptual skills, you will begin to explore drawing as an expanded practice and develop their own unique voice.

We are thrilled to have two wonderful artist/teachers, Stephanie Eather and Merryn Trevethan, leading Drawing Practice across alternating terms. Both bring strong perceptual drawing foundations alongside a dynamic interest in drawing beyond representation – as inquiry, expression, process, and idea. The program will broaden your understanding of drawing as a tool for thinking, observing, recording, and expressing, while cultivating confidence and an individual voice.

This class is ideal for students who have completed Drawing 1 and Drawing 2, as well as those with prior drawing experience who are ready to take the next step in their practice. Students should come with an open mind, a willingness to try new things, and a spirit of curiosity and play. It is especially valuable for those keen to experiment with their own ideas and move towards greater independence in their drawing whilst still having some structure to support them.

It also offers a supportive pathway into our Open Studio classes, where students can continue to expand their practice in a less structured more self-directed environment.
