DRAWING PERCEPTIONS is a 2 day intensive focusing on drawing from life as a direct examination of one’s perception, hosted by artist Fran O’Neill.
The intensive operates with the underlying assumption that drawing is a direct examination of (and possible challenge to) our perceptions and experience of the world and, as such, drawing is transformative to an art practice. You will work daily from one or more live models and materials will focus on charcoal on paper, however other materials maybe introduced to reflect and enhance the act of drawing. This may be determined for the group as a whole or on an individual basis each day, a review of each student’s work will form the basis for the culminating critique.
In this workshop you will come to understand your relationship to the experience of the world around you more deeply, with discussions, materials and individual work with Fran broadening your visual vocabulary. Your knowledge of the interaction of the picture plane, along with various strategies to help explore the pictorial elements of drawing, will be the basis of the class which will expand your drawing practice.
Days will be full, as we will work from 9:00 am – 5pm, and the scale of the work will range from moderate to very large. Drawing Perceptions is structured as 2 consecutive days to utilise your ability to learn from perception.
